Written for the 2021 Christmas Eve service of Nine Lessons and Carols at Duke University Chapel., this setting of G. K. Chesterton’s beloved Christmas poem juxtaposes a haunting original melody, sung by the chorus, with phrases of the English carol “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen,” played by the harp.
